The competition

Sol d'Oro Southern Hemisphere is a Competition organised by Veronafiere.

Entries will be assessed by an international jury under the guidance of Marino Giorgetti, the leader of the Sol d'Oro panel since its first edition.

Who can take part in the Competition?

This edition of the competition is reserved for extra virgin olive oils produced in the countries south of the equator: the competition, traveling in the production countries of the southern hemisphere, after 4 years, returns in 2023 to Peru, in Tacna.

What is Sol d'Oro Southern Hemisphere
Sol d'Oro is the most important blind tasting olive oil competition in the world.
Since 2014, the Competition aims to highlight the best olive oil production, promoting it among consumers and operators, presenting to the public at large typical extra virgin olive oils and their variety, especially in relation to geographical origin, and stimulate the efforts of companies towards continuous quality improvement of their products.

How prizes are awarded
The final score for each sample is assigned as an arithmetic average of the score cards envisaged in the method developed by the Technical Manager of the SOL d’Oro Southern Hemisphere Competition.
The first three extra virgin olive oils in each category - delicate fruit, medium fruit, intense fruit - obtaining the best scores will respectively be awarded:
  • Sol d’Oro – 1st prize (Gold)
  • Sol d’Argento – 2nd prize (Silver)
  • Sol di Bronzo – 3rd prize (Bronze)
In each of the three sections, Special Mention diplomas will be also awarded to the first 10 samples of extra virgin olive oil obtaining from the Tasting Jury a score equal to or higher than 70/90.
The “Sol d’Oro Challenge 2022” will be
given to the company that will reach the highest score with the sum of the points collected from the oils presented in each of the three categories and will be classified in this way:
Sol d’Oro: 10 points
Sol d’Argento: 7 points
Sol di Bronzo: 5 points
Special Mention: 3 points
Oils entered in the competition: 1 point

Each company can enter up to 5 olive oils.
